Murgon Leather Pty Ltd produces premium wetblue whole hides, grains, drop splits, and drum salted hides and skins. The company services the shoe and upholstery finished leather markets and trades under the globally recognised brand of “MurgonLea”.
MurgonLea commenced salted and wetblue hide production in October 1991 and is AS/NZS ISO 9001:2000 Quality accredited. The Company prides itself for its innovative management, processes, and production systems and the delivery of a high quality, efficient value added product to its customers. It is well known for its dedicated focus of working closely with end users in the upholstery and shoe markets to meet their specific needs in tannage, quality selection, and yields.
MurgonLea has recently been purchased by Teys Bros. (Holdings) Pty Ltd. The Teys Group was established in 1946 and is Australia’s second largest meat company slaughtering over 85,000 cattle per month. Teys Bros operates six processing plants in Australia, four of which are based in Queensland and is Queensland’s largest private company. It exports over 300,000 tonnes of beef per annum to over 40 countries and employs approximately 3,000 people.
MurgonLea is centrally located to the Teys processing plants and has access to the total hide production from these plants. The acquisition of the Tannery is a positive step for the Teys Group as it strengthens the Group’s supply chain focus, and builds on the high quality manufacturing and customer alliance strategies that Murgon Leather has successfully employed in the past. The new ownership provides a strong supply base for Murgon Leather which the company will utilise to enhance its reputation for high quality full substance or split wetblue hides, and selected and trimmed salted hides also tailored to specific end user requirements.
The company is well placed for significant growth and previously won the Premier of Queensland’s Regional Exporter of the Year for 2003, one of the most prestigious Export awards in the State.
